USP of product or service

I have chosen one of the facts that relates to death, and the unique selling point is the ability to shock the viewer, in the way that I am looking at the fact that the concept of people dying from ball point pens is overlooked as an insignificant fact that isn’t seen as a major issue. It is also about making it attractive, therefore engaging the viewer and thus making them aware of the situation and more interested in it.

The ability to communicate with the target audience in a clear and concise way. To transmit information that is vital and necessary, in a way that engages the viewer, and relates, effects or just simply communicates the concept successfully.

Summary of brief

The requirement of this brief is to understand the concept of visualising a piece of information, fact or statistic. The task is to take one of three facts, and communicate the fact through a poster, made up of images, type and photography which represent the ideas behind the fact, things you associate with it, and the scenarios that relate to these ideas. The aim is to think of things associated with the chosen fact and use that for the basis for the layout, and presentation.

I have chosen the fact
‘100 people choke to death on ball point pens’

I will looked at the sort of places you associate with where someone might choke on a ball point pen. The setting to which this occurs most commonly. I will also look at juxtaposing this idea and place it in a setting that you wouldn’t expect it to happen, to illustrate it could happen in any setting.

Matt W Moore MWM Graphics

Although I have been looking at older forms of instructional design, another form of design I have been looking at is bright geometric, solid coloured illustartions.
The work of Matt W Moore of MWM Graphics, shows a eye catching colourful approach to design, and can be incorperated into instructional design.
Matt W Moore also uses other forms of media, such as marker pens and paints, proving that great design work doesnt have to be produced relying on a computer alone.

Information Design?

What you could concider as one of the earliest examples of what you could call information design.
This photo was taken of a very old map of the Rochdale/ Crompton area, that my friend got from an archive collection as part of an archeology assignment.
